I found a used RX10 and have been torn. I want a P1000 but not sure why. I decided to make an offer on the RX10 and got it for 500 bucks. I just paid for it. I will experiment with it and see what I think of the super zoom thing and if I want to spend a grand on a P1000. Some really nice features about the Sony that I want to learn about also. ORpilot called it a professional category because of the sensor so I just gotta learn about that also.

I'm assuming the RX10 you're talking about is the 'IV' as opposed to the other three?

I am not sure. There wasn't a lot info on it. I decided to try it. ORPilot talked very highly of the RX10 and I decided I had something to learn one way or another whether it be better sensor or zoom camera. I will let you know when I get it. Suppose to be here the 12th. It's only a 200mm zoom and I have a 300 for my D3500. I think I am eventually going to buy a P1000 but the grand it costs kind of choked me. I need to learn more about editing and how to manipulate what I have as that I think will be the key with the RX10.

Definitely not the III or IV, probably the original RX10 if only a 200mm zoom.

I have looked at different sites as to specs on the RX10. Some of them were saying 200mm even on the V. That's was one of my dilemmas as to the difference between the RX10 and P1000. I guess when it gets here I will try to figure it out. My D3500 has a 70-300 zoom so was couldn't figure out what is so super about 24-200. I will see if it works for me and if not I will get rid of it.

Sony has both RX10 and RX100 models. They are distinctly different. There is no RX10 V at this time. There is a RX100 V newly released.

The RX100 current model is VII (7). You are correct that the RX10 current model is IV (4). Similar sensors but entirely different cameras.

Geez, I'm getting out-of-date on the RX100 cameras. I do know there is a RX10 V coming down the tube, potentially later this year...
I've looked at the RX100 line in the past but the V only had a 24 - 70 mm zoom. I notice the VII is 24-200mm. I still prefer the RX10 III & IV with their 24-600mm reach.
And the Nikon P1000 is a whole 'nother beast. I do like its reach but the 1/2.3" sensor is limiting to an extent; those 1.34 µm photosites are not the best photon buckets...

I have a Nikon P1000 and used it to take pictures of Saturn and Jupiter. The pictures turned out quite well. I used manual focus with a gear head on my tripod. I was excited about the "Christmas Star". Problem was, when I zoomed the camera to 3000mm, it turned into 2 widely spaced planets. I actually had to zoom back out to get the photo I wanted. I have a D7500 and the P1000 and love them both. They each have a role to play.
I am an FNG and loving the learning. ORpilot has been helping me with some stuff. I bought a D3500 and I love it. I have a bunch of lenses for it and have fun. I bought an RX10 through an recommendation from ORpilot. I got a pretty good buy. It just came in today and am going to google the manual and see what all those dials are. I got the P1000 Saturday but it has been foggy ever since. The one thing for sure is I am going to learn a hell of a lot before this is over. The D3500 is pretty easy to use and I have up to a 1600mm for that. Of course the P1000 is auto focus and that's one feature I like.
I got the P1000 and the RX10 and have not taken more than a few pictures trying to figure out the menu and controls. It's been foggy a lot and the pictures look pretty much like a cell phone in the fog. The RX 10 is the original and in nice shape but dirty. I would say they had kids who touched it with ice cream on their hands. What is the best way to clean it? Windex? Drop it in a bath tube? I am thinking a Q tip with something will do but I clean hemi pistons not cameras.
I zoomed in on the power panel for my irrigation about a 1/2 mile away with the P1000. Good pics but not a knock your socks off. I am having fun comparing though.
I made a mistake and am going to PM instead.
These are both with the RX10 on auto. Sunrise in Woodburn the other day and sunset from my home the night before.
I have been carrying the RX10 in my pickup. I just keep experimenting with it. There was fresh snowfall on Goat Mountain so I shot a few.
