A cool day in SoCal...
On a cool day in Southern California, with rain expected tonight (please), I ventured out to Irvine Lake and Irvine Regional Park in Orange County to see what avian life we could find and photograph. Here are some highlights. All are in natural settings...no feeders, no blind. All are handheld. Though there were no real rarities, I was lucky to capture some nice poses of interesting species using a Nikon D500 with a Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom.
Wishing you all a healthy, happy week and a wonderful 2021.

Nice set. Nothing in the images releases the location that is for sure, had you not said. Been to the area. But that is fine as I usually shoot details too that concentrate on the subject and not so much the background.
Great set with great variety.

Thanks very much, Mike. After I posted, I noticed that I didn't "Denise" or sharpen most of these images. Oops! Thanks anyway. Have a great week and a wonderful, healthy, successful 2021. jak

SWFeral, thanks very much. I just checked...no rain yet. I don't think it's expected until around midnight. Please stay well, have a great week, and a wonderful 2021. jak

lamiaceae, thank you very much for viewing and for the kind comments. I have family up in your area but haven't come up there for photography. I'll have to try sometime. Meanwhile, please have a nice week and a wonderful new year. Of course, the problem with concentrating on the subject is often that they are small and in nearly constant motion, and they may not be very close. I was happy with several of these because I was lucky to be fairly close to small subjects. Interestingly, many of the larger subjects (e.g., hawks, herons, ravens) are willing to let you get closer than smaller species.

Why thank you, kpmac. I appreciate the kind comment. I am lucky to live near several spots that attract a nice variety of species. That gives me lots of opportunity to get a variety of interesting shots. Of course, sometimes the most interesting photos are all of one or two species. Sometimes it just takes some luck. Thanks again. Have a great week and a happy 2021. jak
