KTJohnson, thanks for the nice comments. I agree that it is difficult to get a nice photo of the whole cathedral. I'm pleased you enjoyed my photos, especially those of the "attic".

Hi, donziska! I don't recall having seen you before--thanks for coming and the very complimentary comments. You're welcome--I like to share.

I visited Koln in 1953, at that time the cathedral was a mess of rubble. Over 100 bombs were dropped at or near the cathedral. I lived in Germany 1962-64 and dated a girl living less than a block away. We probably visited this magnificent structure over 50 times. Each time we were overwhelmed with the construction and re-construction It’s WOW!

So the scene was still a war zone 8 years later? I would have expected the rubble to have at least been removed. Thanks for coming.

I have visited Köln (Cologne) in Germany several times over the years, and the cathedral there, too. Since I seem to specialize in church sets, and I found I’d not yet done one on the Köln Cathedral, I decided to do one now. The photos here are from different tours – specific information about when, etc. can be found by clicking on a photo, which will take you to the Flickr page for it. Part 1 is of the exterior and views from a trip up to above the ceiling (a rare event provided by the Orgelbau Klais Bonn company during their renovation of the Main Organ). Part 2 is of the church interior. Part 3 is of the stained-glass windows.

Absolutely unique structure and very well presented, David ( I looked through all three parts ). I visited Cologne in 2004, as usual for one day only, and still went to see the Cathedral. I was really overwhelmed by its grandeur, sights and sound of the organ. Thank you.
