This popped up for me this morning, since I subscribe to several "Dummies" email alerts:
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/backlighting-as-a-creative-tool-in-closeup-photogr.html?cid=dn_article

Additionally, this book was listed in a sidebar: "Digital Macro and Close-Up Photography for Dummies."
Anyone familiar with the book? I plan to check holdings at my local library.

Comments, Observations?

Not much to the "Backlighting" article. I like to backlight when possible, and use fill light to provide front detail.
Backlighting really enhances the color of an insect.

The book looks interesting. I wonder if there is a digital version?

I have read it and find it very interesting, I would say it's worth reading

IMO, one of the primary benefits of back-lighting is that it separates the subject from the background and makes it "pop".

For a moment I thought I was looking at my photo as in "De Ja Veau" all over again.
