Loneliness

This is a photo that I shot about 40 years ago. It was an Independence Day weekend and I was roaming around NYC. The camera was a Nikon N6006, one of the more automatic film cameras. The lens was a Nikon 70-200 zoom. That is all I remember. I was struck by the feeling that this person was all alone and I was sadden by the look of loneliness. I had a print made of the slide, framed and mounted. This photo is from a scan of the print.

His expression does set a mood. The beauty and usefulness of photography show here: A moment in time recorded for our later instruction and reflection.

Fantastic image. I like how the eyes of the man & the painting below are on the same diag. Have you tried this is B&W?

It does indeed exude loneliness.

Very good, JeffL. The face does indeed reflect loneliness, but the bars imply isolation as well. I don't think it would have come off as well without them.

I agree, it was an OMG lucky shot for me. It is an emotional image that has an impact, if only just for me.

Yes, but it works as a B&W photo.
