My wife just got a Z7II and isn't able to read QXD cards in the Sony reader I got her. Anyone have this problem? Or any ideas? Thanks.

You don't say what mac it is but if it's one of the new M1 models the driver for the card reader may be not available just yet. Probably if you look in system report and USB the card reader will be listed, so it's a driver issue. Chances are the card reader manufacturer will have a forum and you can ask there if they plan on supporting that product on M1 macs. If they are still currently manufacturing it , the answer will most likely be yes.

Chances are the camera can connect as a mass storage device on usb and you can copy the files over that way. Or maybe use a different computer to copy the files to an ssd drive (i wouldn't use a usb memory stick these days as they are very slow for reading and writing).

Thanks, it is the latest model Macbook Pro, not sure if that is M1 or not.

Some of the USB thumb drives I have are VERY fast writers, but you have to look carefully at the specs of the 12 million choices you have on Amazon to be sure you're getting one of those.

Have you checked to see if the XQD reader works in any other computer?
I've had problems with several XQD card readers by Sony and other vendors failing, even though the combo readers still read SD cards. I've resorted to using a USB cable to transfer directly from camera to computer.

Ok, I got a update from my wife. It isn't Z7II related, the pics were taken on her D850. She can load them into LR fine, but Finder doesn't see the drive, although when she unplugs it she gets the error saying it wasn't properly ejected. It is two different card readers, a Sony MRW-G1 and a generic reader. Thanks.

I had the exact same problem; my Mac Pro would not see the XQD Sony card holder. I looked everywhere, finally I used an USB "A" cable to a "C" adaptor and it worked. Apparently the sony is not getting power from the computer and for some reason the USB adaptor is able to connect the powered properly. There is a small LED light in front of the card reader that will tell you it's powered up.

Interesting. My Sony XQD Card reader works just fine from a hub-no power. Purchased a Sonnet Technologies SF3- XQD and CFExpress reader. Super fast-no connection issues.

In my case the hub will also work, but not if it is connected directly to the C port on the side of the Mac.
