I am requesting your help concerning Apple’s discontinued Aperture Photo Editing SW. True it is available on older OS versions (HS & Mojave) but still works best on HS.
Since replacing my iMac, I have encountered numerous barriers to using Aperture efficiently...I would happily give up it's use for an alternative.
The features in Aperture that are important to me, being able to view up to 4 raw images, side by side, and zoom in and out on each checking for the sharpest. Additionally, you can rate 1-5 on the fly, & the rating remains with the file. IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER APP THAT OFFERS THESE 2 FEATUREST PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. Please, only respond if you know of something, not you have heard it works, or it could work. Too many companies have said yes, but when requested to show me, tech support was unable to do so.

Thanks in advance for your help. Healthy and Happy Holidays to you all...

I'm not a Mac guy and never used Aperture but Lightroom allows you to view several images on the screen at the same time. You can rate 1-5 with the number keys. Additionally it has color labels (6-9) independent of the rating. The rating does not stay with the file since you shouldn't be able to modify a raw file, but the rating stays with the Lightroom catalog which also contains the edits and keywords. You can also have the program write all that to a xmp (sidecar) file.

LR comes bundled with Photoshop for $9.99/month (plus sales tax) for the subscription. That turns some people off but it's really a bargain if you do any amount of processing and/or if you have a lot of photos to keep track of. And it works with either Mac or Windows.

Try Capture Pro 1 free trial. Import some photos and do your testing. If it works for you; Capture 1 is similarly intuitive as Aperture. Your learning curve will be easier and take less time. Then I would do the monthly subscription and if it meets your needs; opt to purchase the license. I recently switched from the Pro version to the Nikon version. No need to spend the extra money for something that I can't use...now.
I am not comparing LR/PS and CP1...just giving you an easy first option. Good luck.

You could take a look at Elements 2021 might still be $60.00. Many videos that review the features also seen on Adobe.com

I happily used Aperture until it was dropped by Apple. I never wanted to go the subscription route so I now use ON1 Photo Raw. I particularly like the way the Browse Module lets you sort through and rate any and all images whether they’re on your internal or external hard drive, desktop, Dropbox or other cloud service. You can select photos to compare and rate by numbers, colors, likes or dislikes (heart’s v. Xs). It certainly does all the things you’re looking forward plus much much more .

Time to do it. Aperture died a gooey death long ago and will not be resurrected.

I was hesitant to subscribe to the Adobe Photography Plan, but it is great stuff! It is capable of almost anything you need, because you get TWO different Lightroom apps, Photoshop, Bridge, and ACR (Adobe Camera Raw file processing) shared among them.

And as long as you never upgrade your operating system you can continue to use it.

If you have a Mac back up and you do get the new system installed you can go to a old date on the back-up and reinstall. I screwed up, and had to do it. Took a few hours to we work it self but it's fine again.

I was an Aperture user and went through this process - first to LightRoom then to On1. It allows you to compare images easily and is the fastest app for grading images. Even better they created an app that will move your Aperture images over to On1. It uses the Apple file structure so you never lose images like you can with LightRoom and others. Give it a try.
