Ballylinch Stud is one of Europe’s leading thoroughbred racehorse breeding operations. Owned by John and Leslie Malone, and located on the banks of the River Nore just outside the village of Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, Ballylinch’s rich limestone land is the ideal setting for nurturing the champion racehorses of tomorrow.

Overseen by John O’ Connor MRCVS for the past three decades, Ballylinch Stud’s state of the art facilities, experienced staff and top class bloodstock have ensured our place at the helm of the thoroughbred industry for over a century. From breeding to foaling, and sales preparation to pre-training, we ensure that every equine resident is given the chance to realise their full potential as a racehorse.

Also under the stewardship of John and Leslie Malone are Ballylinch’s sister farms Castlemartin Stud in County Kildare and Bridlewood Farm in Florida.

From The Tetrarch to Lope de Vega, Ballylinch has been a source of excellence for many generations of Irish breeders. Our roster of 5 stallions were all champions on the track, headed by the world class Lope de Vega – sire of over 100 stakes horses and Group 1 winners on 4 continents.

As well as having a long and proud tradition of standing top-class stallions, Ballylinch Stud is also renowned as a outstanding nursery. The stud consigns foals and yearlings at the major sales in Ireland, England and France each year, featuring both our own stock and those of clients. We have also been the source of many top-class thoroughbreds, including two Breeders’ Cup winners and numerous Group 1 winners, including Classic winner Forever Together, Al Wukair, Belardo and Chriselliam. https://www.ballylinchstud.ie/about-us/

The farm was just across the river from the Mount Juliet Estate and a short walk from the hotel. Fortunately we were blessed by periods of sun and I was able to capture these images of the farm (or ranch if you prefer) and its beautiful inhabitants. I hope you enjoy them!

Excellent set Mark. The last one is a wall hanger; great catch.

Beautiful set, Mark! From the title I was afraid it was of Irish Chippendale dancers (LOL).

A fine set, Mark. Glad it wasn't what Mike thought it was.

Thanks so much Mike. That's the official name of the place and I think the welcome the double entendre!

Thanks for letting me know about this most enjoyable post Mark. I haven’t had much time for UHH lately and would have missed this series. Seeing all of the lovely green grass is also appealing. I know my horse would think he had died and gone to heaven if he could be transplanted to this locale. It’s nice to see our hills getting green again especially since it brings an end to “fire season.”

Stay well.

Great to hear from you and so pleased that you liked these Vicki. I don't think our grass ever gets that green! Stay well. Looking forward to our weekly trek to Strawberry Safeway tomorrow for shop and go pickup. The highlight of the week except when the grandkids stop by and we meet on our front deck.
