HP laptop monitor

Hello,
The monitor in my HP laptop has lost part of the screen viewing.
Would you recommend have it replaced? The computer is working normally otherwise.
A local computer tech. can do it for $160.
I use my 22 inch monitor when at my desk.

Do you use the laptop away from the desk or out of the house?
$160 is a lot cheaper than a new laptop.
