When I visited Death Valley in 2011, coming from the mid-west, my knowledge of the place was pretty much limited to Badwater Basin being below sea level. I was amazed to find a much richer and more beautiful area. Death Valley National Park is the largest national park in the lower-48, fifty percent larger than Yellowstone. Elevations range from Badwater Basin at 282 feet below sea level to Telescope Mountain at 11,049 feet. It has a rich natural and cultural history, with much beauty and many interesting places to visit.
INTERESTING FACT: Death Valley is technically not a "valley", that would have been an area worn away by flowing water. It is what geologist call a "graben", a land mass between two faults that drops down.
The sun rising behind us illuminates the mountains on the far side of the valley first. We are in the shadow of the mountains.

Sunlight moves across the valley and starts to illuminate the area in front of us.

I’ve been there 3 times now. My first visit was just to say I had been there. I LOVE that place! Would go back today if I we were allowed to travel. Thanks for sharing your photos - they are awesome and bring back great memories!
Nice photos of DV, John. Thanks for taking me there.
Nice images! We've been there once, thanks for taking me back.

I remember having a snowball fight at Scotty's Castle about this time of the year but @ 30 years ago with my two kids, my Father and my Uncle. And back about six months later at the same place at 108 degrees. It is a beautiful, fascinating place! Nice memorable photos, John.
Thank you all very much, Joe, John, F-stop, JDT, Ken, Mike, Couch Coyote, Sylvia, Busbum, Retired CPO. It is a special place with so much to see and do. These were shot on April 30th and it was really cold up there at sunrise.
Nice shots, John. Great place for shooters like us.
Beautiful set, John. The downloads are fabulous. I especially love the last image with the shadows in the crevices; it’s gallery worthy.
