In the last month, these guys have been coming to my feeder.
They are mostly in the shade, so I have to use my flash.
That brings mixed results. Here are a couple from the last few days...

Wonderful shots. You sure got lots of vibrant color going on there.

Very nice! Do they stay all year 'round? It's been my experience that using a flash doesn't bother them a bit!

Yes, they do stay year-round. During the summer, I didn't see them much at all. But in the fall and winter, they came back quite often.
Taking pictures of them, I can see that there are several different ones. There is one that puts himself in a tree nearby and chases the others away.
I see a couple of males, at least one juvenile, and a couple of femails. But they are usually alone by the feeder. On rare occasions, I can see a couple feeding at the same time. Once I saw two feeding and a third male that was standing there and telling them to leave. Which they eventually did. Sometimes the only time that I see them is when the alpha male flies out of his tree and chases the other away.
It is fun watching them. They are truly acrobats.

Amazing! Do you have a special concoction in your feeders, or regular commercial?

Nothing special. 1/4 cup sugar into 1 cup water/ Boil it a few min to dissolve the sugar and take out some of the chlorine and stuff.
They say not to use food coloring, and they say that the stuff that you make is better than the commercial stuff. No chemicals or additives.

I thought so, but I was once taking pictures as it was getting dark, and the hummer was acting funny when the flash went off. That was the only time that I had noticed any reaction to the flash. I stopped then because I didn't want to stop his feeding. But that happened only once.

Yours is identical to what my mom's was. Thanks! Good shooting!
