Like others I have used their software since their Macphun days. Apart from some issues with earlier Luminar versions I have been impressed with their support and software. I use Aurora HDR and (now) Luminar AI extensively for work photography.

Both of these I am happy to report are working flawlessly and AI download was quick and accurate. I am using Macs. They work like lightening on my new MacBook (M1 processor, 16GB Ram and SSD) but interestingly Luminar AI works better that L4 on my newish (but slow) iMac (8GB ram, spinning hard drive)

The new tools in AI have cut my workflow time in half. So far so good.

I too found Luminar unfriendly and awkward when I first tried it. I uninstalled it and put it behind me. Since then, I've learned to develop my photographs to taste with the full Photoshop.

I purchased the early bird version of Luminar AI and since it was released I have been unable to download it. I have reached out to Skylum for many days and they DO NOT PROVIDE ANY REPLY OR OFFER TO HELP. I HAVE REQUESTED MY MONEY BACK AND THEY ALSO HAVE NOT REPLIED TO THAT. This has to be the worst customer support I have ever experienced. I suggest you stay away form this company!!!!

I too purchased LuminarAI several months ago. When the download became available for my Mac I tried to download it. However, I was stymied at a step involving using my account password to log into the account again to activate the program. I contacted Skylum help with the problem on Sunday morning early. Got a form response immediately telling me that they will get back to me Monday. They did Monday morning with instructions. It worked. I was able to download, activate and now use LuminarAI.

I love Luminar 4. I downloaded AI with minimum difficulty but have not given it more than I cursory look. From my brief encounter with it I will probably stick with 4.

My download was not a problem, and I did reset my password** however, signing on screen is a significant problem at least on my computer. The eMail address used for the purchase and password was needed, OK. there was a neat ontop screen for entering the info, but as soon as I move my cursor to the ontop screen it expanded and became inactive, OH MY !!

OK, got creative... went to my Word and entered both. I used ^C and quickly ^V to paste the eMail address the then the password before the ontop screen funked to big and inactive. The trick was to hold down ^ [control] with the little finger and index finger on the V to give a quick paste. A few tries and got it to work.

**Password... they asked for eMail used during the purchase and also the password. Do they want my eMail password? NO. One word was missing, Skylum before the word Password; that would have clarified it for me.

Worked with Ai last night, was I impressed? NO! Why, well I get the feeling that this is a whole new world and I was stumbling around and so I was not impressed with my ability and the program is probably a great advance.
--------------------------
Many long years ago in a floppy disk world, I was working with a new database program. By way of training, I purchased an audio training tape with a he and her trainers. Verbal is clearer than video sleight-of-hand now used for training. A simple example, "Go to the upper right of the screen, you will see a dash, a box, and an X these control the screen size and position. Try them."

If I had a verbal trainer for the Ai program, then it would tell me what to do and how to find menus etc. Watching a video is like watching the pea-nutshell game on the streets of NYC... you can not keep up with the pea nor the small view of sliders and menus on the screen which is mostly of the photo being modified. The training videos are quick, because the trainer knows the program and has been using it from the early Beta stage

----------------------------
Aditional complaint for all training; I have watched many Topaz training sessions... the complaint is they do not have us look at the photo and listen to their analysis and what they plan to do. No, they just wander around and make and reverse changes which are often subtle changes.

Analysis is important, when active in the camera club I would put the photo on my cabinet above the coffee brewer and see it cold. I would then circle things to change, thus I had a road map of improvement for my photo .... make changes... print, and put the new improved photo on the cabinet door. Stepwise I cleaned and mod the photo, a lot of work, but it trained me in my beginning live of editing. Visual analysis is key to an improved photo.
My download was not a problem, and I did reset my ... (show quote)

I totally agree on your complaints regarding training videos. I often wonder if there is a time limit on the video. Do they really have to hurry through the lesson? Give us old folks a chance to absorb before moving on.

I have had significant problems with several companies with emails, questions, websites etc. recently. This seems surprising since such things should be doable offsite. This has been largely with astronomy equipment and software companies which is really surprising since many are web only and astronomy equipment is selling like hotcakes. Good by one local, physically here company that fixed my scope, that many big name manufactures had sold out of all scopes they had expected to sell thru mid-2021.
One explanation would be that local shutdowns combined with everything, including email, being done on-site for security purposes has left many short handed? They may also not have the resources to move things home.
As to the security angle, where I worked we were not allowed to use any, but official assigned computers at home, and only on systems where a fixed UP address could be obtained, i.e. No Hughes net, satellite internet which is the only thing available here. Great, dark skies for astro, but no internet or cell phone service for us. It does exist near-by, but mountains (cell phone) and low population density (one home every 500 ft to a mile of road) means no cable internet.
Many companies, even with good products and services, are small operations and with lockdown in many locations who knows what is going on.
This is not an excuse for had products, just thinking outloud.

I have the issue of Luminar ai not opening when used as a plug in Photoshop and Lightroom classic. They both recognize plug-in but nothing happens when I try to open it. I’m using windows 10 and for the first time dealing with them with the Aurora and three versions of Iluminar I am not satisfied.

There's a couple of things I don't understand about Luminar. I got v3 then updated to v4 and have installed it on multiple computers and in no two cases has the install been the same and in more cases than not, the program cannot find its database in a machine. In no case, has the install completed so the program is fully functional and I've had to complete the install process manually. I haven't spent much time using the program and mostly just got it to be conversationally familiar with it but what impresses me is how in the world a company can "take us where no man has ever gone before into the next millennium" that cannot even master and adhere to the state of the art installation process. I know I am not alone - I've read too many complaints about this issue. I'm done with them. In case you're wondering, I often buy new software and look it over, and have done for years, just to be familiar with it and most of the time, never use it to process images. I don't like to be the only person in a conversation who doesn't know anything about what is being discussed and it makes it a little bit more difficult to "pull the wool over my eyes."

TORMENT

I have had a career in law enforcement for over 30 plus years and I have done some background investigation into this company.

According to Legal records, yes in the USA they started out as MacPhum (doing Mac only) , in 2013 in Carson City Nevada. They did have corporate officers in Bellevue, Washington but, that was deactivated in 2019. Because of legal reasons they have registered corporate filings in the state of California and, as of 2019, that is when they established their so-called office in the City of New York. This was around and about the time of the origin of luminar AI.

When looking at the public records for the filing in New York, all of the names for principle individuals were very unique spellings, similar to what you would find for proper names for those who are foreign Nationals of another country...

I have done extensive research on the internet and through other sources and, although this company has been in business since 2013 in the USA, they have no public corporate phone number, they have no public phone number for their sales department, they have no public phone number for a showroom or sales department, and they have no phone number for technical support. Some people say they have a "Chat" tech feature on their website but, this is wrong. The chat box is nothing but a Robbo System" which ends up in an email.

When you send an email through the chat box or to their technical support, Only the Good Lord knows where the email goes to.

Yes, I could do a " whois" search on the company name but, I have not got around to that and it's not that important.

In my dealings, I have had four emails for the company. Each and every time it took a minimum of 44 hours to respond back to me. oh, and the last time it took over 73 hours for them to respond back to me for technical support. In their last email the only help they could offer me was to, either it reinstall the software or upgrade my operating system.

I came to the final conclusion that this is a ghost of a company and they do not want to be found. I came to the hard, fast conclusion that this is a company, or lack of a company, of which I do not want to deal with.

Yes, I have formally requested a full refund for the product vu emai and I am waiting to see the results. It has been 24 hours now.

Could have saved some investigative work, goldstar46. The Luminar website clearly indicates that the company has trademarks registered in the USA and is headquartered in Cyprus.

My Christmas gift to Mac users!

I am sorry that I cannot speak for "Windows" users, however, for Mac users try using "Terminal." My copy of LAI was a bit of pain to install, however, I went into "Terminal" on my iMac and it installed in minutes. So for you Mac users, if you are having difficulty with your LAI install, do it through your "Terminal."

Merry Christmas!!!

LAI does not have the ever-encumbering DAM module, so it is markably faster than L4 which was the design principle for the entirely new version. I agree, LAI is very, very fast, at least on my iMac with I7 and 64gB ram and is an absolute delight to use so far. I cannot believe how much time it saves me in post and now, post is actually fun vs. torture.

Merry Christmas!

I didn't bite on the AI version. I'm not certain I will. I do have Version 4. There's something about the Luminar, McFun, Skylum or what ever they call themselves that just doesn't sit with me. Maybe it was the way we were used as beta testers early on with what was supposed to be working versions of software. When the hair stands up on the back of my neck I usually back up and watch a little closer. In the meantime I'm working with Capture 1 and On One trying to decide where I'll land.

Happy shooting

It always bothers me when they get your money instantly, but as soon as that happens you get an effieu when something goes wrong...
