Excellent work! I love this series, they sure seem to be having fun.

Yeah Bushpilot, when the models have fun, it really reflects in the photos and the photos turn out very nice. They had so much fun with this photo shoot. #10 really shows how much fun! lol Thanks for all the nice compliments.

"...I'm a little surprised that you didn't have any suggestions to improve the photos. I'm always looking for ideas that could improve the photos. It's my way of learning from pros like you are!"

Thank you for the lovely words Brent, albeit I'm certainly not a "Professional" photographer... a.k.a. far less than 50% of my revenue stream comes from photography... However a considerable portion of recompense has come from bridal makeup artistry.

How to improve?
1st image, get closer... or better yet use a longer focal length 200mm or greater, 300mm would stellar. Also the vignette is way too strong, tone it down or if this was caused by the lens use a different lens.

2nd image, absolutely the best of the set... loving the epic pose dynamic and synergy latent within..

3rd image, Brent use an authentic oriental parasol... while "cute" your 32 inch silver umbrella is simply cheesy... Sad because this image had such potential except that her elbow is huge owing to being too close to the camera... The takeaway here is to have the talent's face ALWAYS on the same plane (or closer) to the lens... and maybe get a stylist aboard to help accessorize your sessions...

4th image, great idea, but you cut off the lower portion of her black hijab i.e. headscarves, why? Besides the lint and or pieces of vegetation on this black hijab are a major distraction if you were going for publication. Brent shooting lifestyle and/or editorial fashion is a team effort... collaborate with a stylist, k? One reason why the work of epic fashion photographers such as Peter Lindbergh is so outstanding, his team keeps the myriad of variables in check.

5th image, wonderful synergy and facial expression here albeit you've greatly exceeded the dynamic range of your sensor... Expose to the right Brent and bring up the shadows in post (or better yet in HDR). Also thalidomide fingers on the right hand are a distraction. Brent the hands are equally as important as the face... She is a gorgeous lady... showcase the merits of her radiant beauty...

6th image, Brent the "Electric" Turquoise Blue hand bag? You seriously needed a wardrobe coordinator on this capture... That shocking hue and chroma has no place within this delightful earth tone venue...

7th image, Love it! Everything works! Kudos to you and your talent here...

8th image, great makeup artistry, however her over exposed shoulder dominates... Please think about having the talents face closest (or on an equal plane to the rest of the body).

9th image, very charming... iconic pose dynamics.... however the talent on camera left looks crosseyed because her iris are slammed into the corners of her eyes... The fix? Tell the talent to always look where their nose is pointed, problem solved. Also have both of these talents look in the same direction... solution is to have them both look it the same object.

10th image, great synergy however lose the cheesy silver umbrella... a.k.a. work with a stylist...

Does this actually help Brent... I'm weary of being the messenger, no one likes the messenger so I just give positive reinforcement where appropriate...

"...you are in DC right? You do have access to the ocean but may need to travel further than I need to..." Brent I don't have deep pockets... while it is within driving distance, summer beach traffic is horrific... thus it's an overnight two day minimum session.

Below is an example of an early "seashore" effort with a gifted ballerina... I apologize in advance for posting imagery in your thread however this is the most effective way I know to showcase some of what I've commented on above... Brent I find "static" imagery boring so I'm drawn heavily into dynamic motion where the camera can capture what the eye can not... It's all about capturing a "Pivotal Moment" of charismatic finesse... and the reason I work extensively with ballerinas... btw, her shadow wasn't added in post, it was crafted in real-time.

hope this helps or is at least food for thought...
all the best on your epic journey Brent

WOW Thomas........... you are a wealth of information and I thank you so much for taking so much time and energy to analyze each one of these photos. I learned so much from you! I can’t thank you enough for the tips I have learned from each one of your individual analysis. Btw......I don’t mind you posting your ballerina photo on the post. Hopefully other ugly hedgehog members will glean from your analysis of each one of the photos too. Thanks so much!!!!
