I recently asked for help in removing the kids from this picture. I received several replies, and I thank the respondents for the help. Since then, I downloaded the new Luminar AI, not knowing what to expect. Well, I had a picture open in Luminar of a forest scene, with a big red hydrant in the scene. I stumbled across the erase tool, and thought to myself, "What would happen it I erased the hydrant?"
So, I just drew a mark over the hydrant and hit the erase button. Wow, just like PS.
Then I thought, what would happen to the kids I needed to take out of the 1947 picture of the farmhouse.
Here is the result. Original and erased version. Very satisfactory in my opinion.
Amazing ! I assume your program version is recent as is your computer. My MacBkPro is 2015 !
Now try using the erase tool on the trees growing out of the roof.

Peter,
My computer is a Lenovo laptop. It is 18months old, but I filled up the 500GB SSD, so 2 months ago I swapped a 1TB Samsung SSD into it. After the usual hiccups, I got everything working, and now it is easily the fastest computer I have ever had. The disk read speed is somewhere around 3200mbs, and write is 2400mbs. I never will need a faster one.

Haha, that tree was growing out of the second kids head. I missed it. Still learning the Luminar AI, how did I do?
Nice work. I have yet to use the AI version, but I have found that Luminar’s erase tools, no matter the version, will run rings around anything Lightroom has ever offered.

Perhaps I don’t have a sufficiently discerning eye, but the only difference I find in the two altered pictures (other than the size of the files and number of unique colors) is in the EXIF, where 48676 shows being processed by Windows Photo Editor and 529137 was processed by Luminar AI; otherwise, I see no difference.
There is some muddled replacement around the tree behind the boy in front. I do see, also, potential problem areas for the removal and replacement portions were the picture to have been in color. It’s then not as simple as replacing black with black and white with white, and the object duplication could present a problem, as well.
As with any photo manipulation, in the end it depends upon with what percentage of perfection one is satisfied.

Sorry -- should be 486676
I do not have the new version of Luminar AI because is annouced for dicember 15th, but I do have Luminar 4. Luminar as all the editing software has lights and shadows, but one superlative operation is erasing objects. I believe that it is the best operation of all other software including PS. When I need to erase an object surely I go to Luminar.

Perhaps I don’t have a sufficiently discerning eye... (

And I now do notice a visual difference between the two altered pictures: in 486676, the tree right center of the snow covered roof is growing directly out of the roof, with no connection to the ground. This is not the case in 529137. In both, a window from the left side of the house wall facing front has been replicated on the end wall, complete with light and shadow, even though there was nothing to have been replaced in that area. Also in both, but especially so in 486676, there is a semi-circular area on the roof, where the boy’s cap has been replaced, which is much whiter that the rest of the snowy roof.

If all you did was the replacement and no further touch up, it appears to do a better job than PSE 2018's Edit/Selection Fill/Content Aware process. At least in my experience.

Thanks for sharing you edited and pre-edited versions. Worked out well.
