Nikkor 28-300mm

Calling all Hedgehoggers! Took delivery of a Nikkor 28-300mm on 9/28/2012 from B&H. Don't know if this is normal, but the focus ring seems abnormally stiff when I rotate it. Then when I get to the 200mm mark there is a hitch to the 300mm mark. When I compare it to my 18-105mm that came with my D7000, the 18-105mm is much smoother all the way through. B&H is on "holiday", so I can't talk to them. Has anyone encountered this with this lens out of the box? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I believe you are referring to the zoom ring rather than the focus ring, the focus ring is narrower and nearest the body and does not affect zoom.
Anyway, neither ring should have a stiff feel or a change in feel. Sounds like you have a problem with the lens and I would return it. But B&H is currently closed for an extended Jewish holiday. Good luck

Yeah you have a dud! Mine's 18 months or so old and no issues like that, very smooth focus and zoom. Nikon does not seal the packaging so it's impossible to tell used from new.
