Canon 6D...is it a good choice?

Just wondering what my UHH friends think about the new, soon to be available, Canon 6D. I'm wondering if it is a good choice as a step up from a crop sensor to a full frame. I'm interested in your thoughts. Thanks.

I cannot comment directly on that body, but you do need to be aware that any EFS lenses you may have will NOT work on that body, it will accept EF lenses only, same as Canon's other full frame bodies.

I am seriously considering one but I will wait and see how the early reviews come out. At first, I think it may be overpriced but there may be a rebate or sale to help with the price. The D6 will be trimmed down in features- maybe you could call it a fullframe Digital Rebel.

I have thought about getting a T4i until I learned it had a tough screeen. From there I thought I might as well look at a full frame Canon body.

Linda, a nice camera BUT....My partner uses a 5D Mk2, that also has no inbuilt flash. She finds it very heavy and with the weight of a speedlight darn near impossible to use without a tripod. So depending on what you shoot bear in mind the extra weight factor.

I'm getting it. I have an old Rebel and am ready to move up. I actually really like the size and ergonomics of the 60d but wanted more camera. Was considering the 7d and the 5d mk2, but after holding them both and comparing to the 60d (which is closer in size and weight to the 6d), decided to go with the 6d. I have small hands and like the smaller size. Plus, I like the button layout on the 60d coming from the Rebel. Buy what works for you and know that there is no perfect camera.

I use a Rebel 3Ti. My understanding is some EFS lens will work on a full body Canon, but the image is 30% less than one taken with the same camera using a FE lens.

According to Canon. no. But there are fixes out there I have read about where EFS lenses can be modified to mount on their full frame bodies. Not sure how expensive those kits are, but the conversion is supposed to bew something you are able to do at home if you are proficient.

Sorry, but I've got a 1D and the EF-s lenses will not even mate with a FF body.

True, there is a fix, if you can call it that, that costs about $15 to convert an EF-s to fit the FF body mount. But the problem is that some, if not most, EF-s lenses will/might interfere with the mirror. I wouldn't do it. But if you must know how to do it, it's as simple as buying a new plastic piece from canon that slips into the rear end of the EF-s lens. You simply grab the old plastic cone shaped piece and pull it out and do the reverse installing the EF plastic piece. If you do this, and damage the lens or body, Canon will not warranty anything.

Yes, jeep daddy is right. I converted a 10-22mm to work with my 5D Mark II. There is a safeguard that keeps the mirror from hitting the lens and it is a very simple solution.

That is wrong. I own a Canon 60D and I use both EF and EF-S lens. The 60D is a fine camera.

Sorry, doing some speed reading there. I thought you meant 60D. You are correct MT Shooter. However, I would love to have a D6 for myself.

Maybe you should READ the OP before making foolish statements.
