I had missed this, a friend who knows I am a Photo-Fiend sent me this.
No, I don't watch Fox, or TV, for that matter. Cloudy here tonight, we'll have to see.
If you get something, PLS share!

Just came back inside from looking, toes and fingers getting numb.
Clear skies here but nothing to report. I do live in a semi light polluted area though.
Fingers crossed however. I’ve seen them many times and it’s always a treat.

Used to see them big time on the Minnesota North Shore, so far, not here in Montana. Good Luck!

Yeah, seen em from the big lake several times. Always from the south side though. With luck I’ll be there in a few months.

I used to see them when I lived in NW Montana. More in the early spring. Not so much here in Kansas. But I'll look anyway. I live in a very rural area with no competing light. The night sky here is vivid.

Here is the forecast from the Geophysical Institute at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Increased activity from 12/9 to 12/12 and greater activity later in the month from 12/18 to 12/20.

I found the easiest way to photograph the aurora is to just run a timelapse. Just setup the camera for night time shooting and have it start at 10 pm and stop at 5 am.

There were times when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I would look out the window and see the aurora. Grab a camera and tripod, throw on a parka and the Sorels and run outside for some photos.

I have seen them from Massachusetts, but they are much more spectacular further north.

Hudson Bay
Alaska (although you don't want to go TOO far north: the aurora forms an oval centered on the magnetic pole and if you go too far north you pass the good stuff and you'll have to look to the south.
Thule, Greenland.

A good auroral display will be bright enough to read a newspaper by.

If you get to a good area you don't want to take photos. You want to take videos.

Interesting, thanks. As far North as I am likely to be right now - certainly won't be crossing the Canadian Border!

Aurora forecast shows good possibilities tonight (December 10, 2020) just after dark.

Checked about midnight. They were visible but very low in the sky and covered by cloud.

Somewhat north of you...
