Winter & Christmas in New York -5- 2010: Westchester: After the blizzard

These photos were taken with my old camera in 2010 at our friends place in North Salem. A blizzard right after Boxing Day bestowed us a Fairy Wonderland as well as the challenge of some hard shoveling. Luckily the snow service cleared the long driveway so we just had to clear the path to the car which was encrusted with a generous snowcap like the icing on a cake.

Great images as usual. Some of the snow detail seems a bit blown out on my monitor, a simple fix in pp, and only mentioning it to be "helpful". Please stay well and keep on sharing your excellent work.

Thank you Ours for looking in again. Yeah, I can see some areas that are blown out - these shots were taken with my old D90 10 years ago when I was still shooting jpeg and doing minimal processing in Picasa and basically didn't know what the heck I was doing - I would be very leery to touch these jpeg images again, so I just keep it as is as a reference point for "getting better". I did mention in my original intro that some of the pictures were from an older trip and have some "pleading for forgiveness" built in - hope you can still enjoy them as they are with all their built-in faults. Have a great day - Joe

I thoroughly enjoy seeing other folks snow, especially if there is shoveling involved. You did a good job with these, Joe.

Great pics again. I really like #5, thinking the snow may have melted into these shapes, as well as #6 for the wind-whipped patterns in the snow behind the chair. I came from a snow-filled area but with too many gloomy skies over Lake Erie and seldom nice blue skies you had here. Blue skies are more welcoming!
I also like your reference to Boxing Day, which many people in the U.S. may not think about as it's not a holiday as it is in Canada, the U.K. and maybe elsewhere.

Thank you Barbara - yes I also love snow pictures - particularly when there is NO shoveling involved - or at least not by me! Used to get a lot of that "fluffy stuff" when we lived out east, both in New York and up in Toronto, fluffy was fine, but if it then gets covered with a ice-rain coading and you cave to cut eath shovel-load out step-by-step, it was way too much. Here in WA we don't get that much snow, and when it comes, it usually melts pretty fast, so I just let nature do its thing - and that's what I plan for this winter, as with Covid we are sort of locked in anyway and have the supplies to last... Have a great weekend - Joe

Thank you Ellen, # 5 is one of my favorites as well, I guess the wind force blew most of the snow off the upper structure, but acumulated it on the seat, but also less where the slats are, so the sun could do its magic as shown in this picture. I agree that white snow and blue sky, particularly pale blue, goes very well together. Really funny, I forgot that "Boxing Day" is not a US thing - I guess it reveals my "partially" Canadian heritage .... Enjoy your weekend - Joe

Nice work with the snow, but far too much for me. We have had those snows in the past, but not for a while now.
