I can't get the new D850 firmware to update. When I click the .exe file nothing happens. Anyone else having this issue?
That EXE is an extract file that you run on your computer to extract the 'bin' file that is the firmware. Then, copy the extracted firmware 'bin' to a camera card that you insert into the camera and run the update.
I think I would wait a week or two to see if there are any download glitches or firmware problems with v1.2.
It will be nice to be able to use CFExpress Type 2 cards as well as the XQD cards. One will need a new reader for CF Express cards. Prices for both formats might come down?
However, what is the rush? Watch the photo blogs to see how it goes before you download, my $.02.
I figured it out. The file was dated 11/11/2020 and I was searching for 12/03/2020. I finally found it in an obscure download spot. Thanks for the replies.

I knew that. The .exe file was executed to an obscure location and dated 11/11. I finally found it.

What operating system are you using? If some flavor of Linux you may need to unzip the EXE file using one of the many available tools like 7-Zip.
Make sure you copy the extracted file to the card that will be in the primary card slot. Nikon has direction for camera firmware updates on their website.

Steve Perry has an excellent tutorial on exactly how to do a Nikon firmware update. You should look at it. Google Steve Perry Nikon firmware update
I did both the D850 and D500 updates last night and it was quick and easy once I remember what to do.

I finally figured out what happened, Carol. I just couldn't find the .bin file after opening the .exe file.
