Hello,

I like to take pics of old barns, old abandoned buildings, the beach and my grandchildren.

Thanks for the reply.

"Dpardue" I have a question. I mentioned this way back. What type of pictures do you want to take? A macro lens is agent lens for a walk around if you shoot insects, a 500mm is great if you shoot birds. I said earlier 28-300mm is the generalness I use, but that may not be you. We have spent 7 pages of advice and you never answer (that I saw) what type of photos you want to do.
Not trying to start any problems but, I am interested to know so we can be more helpful. Thanks

I'm probably going to order a Sigma 24-105 Art in the next few hours or so for my a99ii. The sale at B&H ends on the 7th. I have a 17-50 but if attached to the ff reduces MP to 18 vs the 24 on the a77. All my others are ff lenses and I don't have anything in this range. 70-300, 150-600, 105 macro. Every zoom is s compromise in some way or another, but my research indicates it's a good choice. When (if) I go to Ireland next summer I might rent something like an 18-300, but I saw a video/slide show by someone who used the 24-105 on a trip to Italy and it looked like it did a very fine job.

Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art. Probably I'll put it on my a99ii first and see how it goes. I don't have anything of that zoom length in either format (APS-C or FF). Closest thing I have is a 17-50 f/2.8 APS-C lens, but if attached to the big gun MP go from 42-18. On the crop body I still get 24MP out of it. I've only had the FF body since June.

Is 18-140 wide enough?

I think so. It is on one of my Nikon's almost all of the time as my walk around and also for landscapes. It is a great lens.

As I noted earlier, my walk around lens is the 18-200mm. I find that it is sufficient most of the time, but have supplemented it with a 10-20mm. You might want to think about adding that in the future. Although I don't use it much, when I need it, it is invaluable. I also often use the upper range of the 18-200mm so you might want to think about that as well.
