I am a long time Nikon user (since 1966). Shoot with D5, D850, D500. Mostly nature/travel.

Anyone have experience with the D6 yet. I am interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks.

You must be a big shooter. I don't see what's wrong with what you have now.

I don't see how you can improve what you have. At least not image-wise. But if you can afford it; why not?

I think the D6 is mostly targeted for the sports photographer.
Not sure why you would want to swap a D850 for a D6 considering your subject matter. Save your $’s.
Just my opinion.

What is the D6 going to do for you that you don't have already?

I don't think he said he would get rid of the D850.

His D5, D850 and D500 are currently Nikon top of the line except the D5 so replace the D5 with the D6 makes sense.

I have the same three Ds. I thought about selling the D5 and D500 and purchasing a D6. Even though the D6 features seem better and Steve Perry's review is detailed, for my shooting habits, I am not convinced the D6 is worth the upgrade. I have to wait until more are available and possibly rent one from NPS.

Steve Perry on you tube does a D6 review & at the end does a comparison of it with the D5. He has been shooting Nikon wildlife/Nature forever & knows it well. Highly suggest you watch it .

I think we need some perspective. Different cameras for different uses. I use the D5, D850, Z7 and now have a D6. I pick my camera for the particular application. I do not use the D850 for sports or low light situations. I use the D850 and Z7 for thoughtful creative shoots that do not require high speed reactions. Z7 for casual travel. I use D850 and Z7 for focus stacking. D5 and D6 are fast cameras that are very good in low light.
Having said all of the above, I have been very impressed with the incredible percentage of usable images from the D6. Going from a D5 to a D6 is a very easy transition. Most impressive camera. I’m loving it. Also has built in GPS as an added bonus.

Ah, GAS rears its ugly head. Given 2020, if you can afford a D6 and getting one will make you feel better, go for it.

Owning the D5, D850 and the D6 I would wait on buying the D6. The reason I jump on the D6 Last April was the fps over the D5 and little better ISO. I was shooting high school football, basketball and track but with co-vid my high school is not having sports and with that I have no need for speed. So the D5 and D6 sit on the shelf and the D850 is my work horse. The D6 comes out when I need the higher ISO which is not often.

Thanks, your comments are on target. Would sell D5 (or make it a "multi year" Christmas present to my son)
