We (in this thread) are just ordinary guys, I've been one for a long time. When I deal with other people, I expect to be treated as an OG. I applied for and got a PayBoo a while ago, an ordinary guy in an ordinary transaction - ask, receive.

You have been arbitrarily denied what I (arbitrarily) got. There is no good reason, it's the randomness of the universe. You cannot appeal, THEY have their rules. No, they don't care if you're inconvenienced. It doesn't matter, that card is a BAD idea, anyway, and nobody has refused you service at the grocery store or gas station.

I got my card because I wanted to save a few bucks in sales tax. It took covid 19 to smack me in the face with the truth that I, Little Danny, am defunding the police (and fire department, road department, bus service, etc.) with my stinginess. Nothing is free, we who use are obligated to pay, like it or not.

You don't seem to understand that the sales tax does get paid, by B&H. And I don't believe that this requirement to make a video to get the card is random. They must have some reason it applied to me and not to others. They just refuse to tell me what it is.

I've had the same problem about one month ago. They want you to take a photo of the front and back of your driver's license and a photo of yourself. I got through to taking a photo of myself and the front of my driver's license. I apparently failed on 3 attempts to photograph the back. So, that was the end. A week later I did receive a letter from Synchrony Bank with instructions to call them. I didn't. The irony of this is that I already have a credit card relationship with Synchrony. I don't dance through hoops for any credit card. B&H's loss. There are other vendors out there that offer incentives.

You seem a little bit harsh with the original poster (JohnSwanda). If I were in his shoes I would request from everyone I speak with, a reason for how they come to this exclusionary policy. That was is why you request everyone’s name in the beginning.
For example, That is much like everyone who is 5 feet tall or more and has brown hair can have a hotdog from the sidewalk vendor. However, even though you fit the criteria, yOh are denied. If that were me, I WANT a legitimate reason why I cannot buy a hotdog. There are unmentioned criteria and there is no opportunity for appeal. That could constitute discrimination. You are well within you right to request why you are being denied Payboo.

Jim H, same thing with me. Over 800 score and they turned me down in a nanosecond. Perhaps they only want buyers who pay off over time so they can get their usurious interest rates.

Maybe PayBoo is hoping Stormy Daniels will apply for a card.

There is a good chance no one could explain this. Banks use A.I. to decide such things. Only the computer knows. Read the book: Weapons of Math Destruction.

I went through the same application process for the PayBoo card a few months ago in anticipation of the holiday sales. The required video of the applicant's face and image of the driver's license were for identification security. Maybe you can borrow someone's smartphone or iPad for a few minutes to submit your images to the bank during your application process. They only take a few minutes to take and submit. With sales taxes as high as they are in most states, the savings are considerable when the BH prices are the same as those charged by other sellers.

I'm 71, and I have never missed a credit card payment or paid a cent of interest in my life. I would only have gotten the card to have B&H pay the sales tax for me.

Like bobforman stated this is a difficult bank to deal with and if you have a good credit score and payment history they do not want your business because you will probably never miss a payment so you will never pay there high interests rates

B & H had a good reputation for good prices timely deliveries and customer service. I just do not understand why the would chose to do business with Synchrony bank. its a line of credit to be used in B&H yet if you have a problem B&H says you have to deal with the bank. it speaks poorly to the way they have chosen to do business. what happened to there customer service they once took so much pride in ?

I live in California where the sales tax can be nearly 10% in some cities. The Payboo card is very beneficial to me and helps avoid the high tax we pay in this state. Naturally, Synchrony Bank is counting on a certain number of subscribers to miss payments so that they can offset the refunds to the rest of us. If you don't routinely pay your statement off in full during each billing cycle, this is not the card for you. Otherwise, it's a good deal and is better for those folks living in states with higher sales taxes.

I don't understand why they require a video as opposed to a photo. What additional information are they getting from a video?

Video would be harder to fake, many people have photos of themselves on the web, including people here. Videos are also available for many people, but a video of someone dancing or such would probably be rejected.
Just a thought.
