I hope Nikon can make it financially. While die hard Nikon users will say they will make it, their financials are the worst of any of the major brands. While Nikon cameras and lenses are excellent Nikon doesn't have other large businesses like Canon, Sony, etc. Canon has a huge medical imaging business. Sony makes the sensors for Nikon. I don't know how much longer they can last with their loses.

Actually Nikon’s biggest business is their precision equipment division. They’re a world leader in making the equipment used to make things like LCD panels and sensors.

Business must not be as expected unfortunately because they have had several years of massive losses. While I don't shoot Nikon, the more competition the more innovation and that is good for all photographers.

I looked at several of their annual reports this afternoon. They actually have not had several years of massive losses...rather a couple of years of small losses. Hard to understand why so many take such pleasure in speaking poorly of them. Their development work has driven the development progress of several other companies, in particular Fuji and Sony. Fuji was long a sister company, even if just by association, even sharing space with Nikon. Sony has for 50 years or more been famous for building a business based on appropriating the development work of others and implementing an improvement here or there.

So if Nikon did fail, the loss would be felt far beyond the company's own doors. I don't think any of us can guess what may happen.

I read an article earlier today that was positing that as many as 25,000 of the 110,000 remaining retail stores in the United States could close before the pandemic runs its course. To me, that is a much bigger worry than what might happen to our camera choices.

I have a D600. Are your images significantly better with the d750 using the same lense?

Thanks for the feedback.

Nikon revenue was down 8B in USD. Their imaging division by their own reports are down 20%. This makes funding R&D difficult.

Like previous years Canon's top sellers are not the top of the line cameras where they make their most profit per unit but in their cheaper APC cameras, especially in areas like Japan.

The possible loss of retailers will hurt the business and will continue to consolidate this space. In the US I believe that most sales come down to Adoroma, B&H and Amazon. For the used market it is KEH and MPB so their consolidation has been happening for a while now. I personally only use Amazon for accessories because the customer service at Adoroma and B&H are wonderful and they have people who understand cameras.

The whole industry has been losing sales mainly due to cellphones, but I haven't found them any good for spectator landscapes or true 1:1 macro. For more simple things they produce reasonably well and can be post processed if using RAW files.
