SherriA Loc: After 2 yrs in Italy, back home in Florida

I tried my hand at photographing landscape when I was in Vail, CO for my cousin's wedding last October. I was sad when I learned I missed the turning of the Aspen leaves by about a week.

I used my Nikon D5000. I have been lurking around this site long enough to know what many people think of the "auto" setting, but at the time I took the pictures I didn't know any better. So that's what I'm trying to learn, how to get off the "auto" setting.:) So for now, just look at the composition.

The second shot is great....Not that the others aren't.

Thanks! Is it the perspective of the second one that you like?

Beautiful scenery in Colorado, lucky you! My favorite is the 2nd one, love the composition that blue sky really pops too. Nice set!

Having seen much of that scenery on visits, I particulary like the scene and composition of #1. The other colors pop more, but I can just "hear" the rush of the water of rocks of the river running into the distance with the fresh air smell. Well done Sherri. :thumbup:

I like them all. Auto, or not.

It was really fun to be out there. My husband drove the rental car around while it looked for photo ops. He wasn't very excited though when I decided I needed to go out in the middle of the creek walking on the rocks, holding my Nikon, but he did like the pictures I took. It was a brisk morning too. Well, for someone that flew in from Florida anyway. :)

Thanks. Like I said, I'm just learning, so Auto will be my fallback when I want to get "something."

2: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: {great composition}
1: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: -1/2 {just like the scene and colors}
3: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: -1/2

I often use Auto when walking around and don't want to think about all the parameters if a shot should suddenly appear.
Sure - it's the lazy solution - but guess what - - a lazy shot beats a MISSED shot any day of the week !!

SherriA, #1 and 3 catch my eye.
You can always come back, looks like we may have some snow by the weekend.
Not so much the plains, but the Mtns, may.

Oh I definitely want to come back to Colorado, but it will be early enough to miss the snow. I want to see the fall color and not be cold. :) I'm not much of a cold weather girl.

Great shots! I wanted to get out there for the Aspens but didn't make it. They are beautiful when they are in full color.
