Luminar 4 as a filter in Photoshop 2021

I am on an iMac OS Big Sur and using Photoshop 2021 CC and have been using Luminar 4 Version 4.3.0 now Version 4.3.2 for a long time. My problem is when using this filter in Photoshop it brings up Luminar 4 and when I try to apply the changes to Photoshop it brings back a black layer (not the adjusted image). I re-installed the plugins with the same result. Is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

I have been a Luminar user since it was called Neptune (then Pluto, then Luminar 2018, Luminar 3, Luminar 4 - Skylum/Luminar screwed this one up big time - again.

Plenty of folks are having the same issue there is a thread on it here

Thanks, good to know I am not alone. One thing that I don't like is that they don't have the link on their site for support. I like the product, but primarily use it as a filter plug-in to Photoshop.

Is this only a problem on a MAC then? I hope so because I'm on a PC and was hoping to get Luminar 4 for the first time to try it out and I also have Photoshop.

It was originally a Mac only software company, so PC users have their own set of problems with Luminar. It works for some, and not others.

This particular problem is from their attempt to fix an issue which was related to the Mac OS Big Sur release. It looks like their developers did not actually test their product against the pre-release versions of the OS.

The company was originally called Macphun, and they released some really good photo editing software. When they started developing for Windows a few years ago they renamed themselves Skylum and the software has not been quite as stable and they haven't kept up with promised features and updates.

That said, I really like their software, it works well and I have never really had any major issues with it.

I agree, I had the Macphun suite of products and loved using them. I hope they fix the current problem fast for the Photoshop filter end. At some point they are supposed to release the Luminar AI version (I pre-ordered it) and I hope they test that out thoroughly before its release.

Hi Bruce - Our team is currently investigating the issue and we hope it is going to be resolved soon.
What we do know so far is that the issue mostly persists for 16-bit files.
For now, you can either process 16-bit TIFFs in the standalone version of Luminar or send 8-bit files to the Luminar plugin.
Also, one of our customers has found some workaround by creating a copy of the layer in Photoshop.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. We will keep you updated on this problem.
Also, please take a look at the group description/rules - this group is for photo sharing only so please be sure to share an image with your next post. Thanks for your cooperation!
