There is a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers that live in the woods around the house. I have never been able to get close enough for a decent shot. Finally got some late afternoon today. Very heavily cropped and somewhat noisy but figure if I spend some time in PS will get something decent. Here a couple quick edites.

I find them to be quite good, Rick. And I don't see much noise.

Thanks. I was blown away at the chance to get them. They have been pretty evasive when ever I get any where near them.

Looks good to me, great captures and rendering. When I opened the first one I was thinking - "did he forget to rotate this 90 degrees?" #2 and #3 set me straight. Excellent work - please stay well and keep on sharing.

Just looked and your right they would look good that way too. I hadn't thought of that. He is a good looking bird. He stayed around just a bit and then flew off when another started calling deeper in the woods.

Just thinking I would attach the full image. Jpeg out of camera. I shoot Raw with Jpeg. Usually don't crop that much but the background was pretty busy.

Great pics! Local vernacular where I live calls them wood hens. I don't know why. Love the way they travel from tree to tree. Seems like everything they do is shyly demonstrative.

Right place, right time - sometimes you just get lucky. Good shots and I know how hard it can be to get close.

High ISO? Better to get the shot than not. Good catch.

Very nice. I have only seen one in the wild and could not get to my camera fast enough.
