Anyone Else Getting NIK Software Warnings?

I downloaded Nik Software when Google offered it for free. I've used that version for a lot of years now. This week I received notice (when using Nik in conjunction with Photoshop Elements) that I have a two week trial version that is set to expire in (now) 11 days. Has anyone else received similar messages?

I'm wondering how they know that I'm using Nik because Google did not have me register it way back when.

I have not (yet at any rate), and I just reinstalled Nik when the latest PS/LR update removed it. I reinstalled from the original installation file in my download folder, and I have never registered it in the years I’ve used it.

My guess is that you inadvertently downloaded and installed the 30 day free trial from DXO a couple of weeks ago. If you did, it overlaid the previous installed version. To return to your free version you will have to uninstall the trial version and reinstall the Google version from the installation files you originally downloaded.

No, I didn't do that. I haven't been anywhere near the DXO website or any third party site where I may have done it.

Just opening NIK in photoshop may send information to either Adobe and/or DxO that you are using the program.

I've been using NIK software since before Google took it. I've not seen any warnings whatsoever.

Ditto... and NIK is a plug-in for a number of applications installed subsequent to NIK.

I don't really know what happened in your case, but I just checked mine and it wasn't working. Then I remembered that Adobe had a recent major update for Photoshop. So I opened up File Explorer and noticed that yes, there is a new folder with Photoshop 2021 and my Google Plugins are not there. Luckily, Adobe doesn't delete the Plugins folder from the previous versions. So I copied the Googles plugin folder over to the new Adobe Photoshop 2021 Plugins folder and wala, it works fine now. If I were you, I'd check your folders and see if this is the same case for you. If so, simply delete your Googles folder or NIK folder in the newest Adobe Photoshop 2021 Plugins folder, then copy it from the Adobe Photoshop 2020 Plugins folder. You should be all set.

Been using the free google Nik programs since they were available. Used it yesterday several times with elements. No such warning.

Update: Last night I deleted the Nik software from my computer and reinstalled it using the original download file from Google. When I edited photos last night the message about my version running out did not appear. We'll see what happens in 3 or 4 days!

Google knows what you had for breakfast this morning and when you had your last bowel movement. You
really shouldn't be surprised

I just test HDR EFEX 2, free standing from Google. No issues.
