I know of a photographer in the US who is on the lookout for this lens, in gently used condition for a reasonable price. They would need of course need photographs (of the lens and a couple of RAW files taken with that lens), proof of Canon US warranty, original box, paperwork, and originally included accessories (case, hood, front & back caps). I’ve sold them my depreciated lenses & bodies in the past, so I know they are trustworthy with the money.

Why not put pictures up here and a price. No matter what, as soon as you get in interested party, they are going to want both, pictures and price.

Unless you have a convincing story for Canon, their warranty will not transfer. You can call Canon support and verify.

This is true, but not the reason why I would always ask for evidence of US warranty... a grey market lens wouldn't be worth the price quoted.

Good idea! That didn’t occur to me. 👍

I bought this lens from Adorama. It is a USA lens. Please provide the interested party contact information and I'll take it from there. Thank you.

Why is that? Same lens, no warranty either way. Canon will repair "gray market" lenses at your cost (same as a "USA" lens that is out of warranty.

Simple. Over the last 4 years, the dollar has seen significant depreciation over other currencies. I had the opportunity to buy this same lens in Europe in September 2018, new with European Warranty, for $1,700 US equivalent: https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=EUR&view=5Y

Certainly that is your choice. Not sure I see the significance of what a person paid for the lens new has on its value now. If the going rate for the lens in good shape is $1300, does it matter what was paid by the seller 2 years ago? If he bought it 2 years ago in the USA with dollars, he paid $2200 or so. If he bought it gray market for $1500, it is still the same lens -worth $1300 now.

When I was on vacation in Barcelona, I made sure My B&B was near a department store. I went in to buy a silk tie and a few other items. I went to the ELECTRONICA Department. This is ironic since they consider electronics to be feminine. I looked around and saw a decent selection of merchandise. Price tags were all in Euros. I was quite surprised by the currency conversion. Lenses and camera bodies were much higher than here in the states. A very nice woman employee noticed I was shopping. She offered to help. (I looked like a tourist) I asked her about the prices and she explained they pay duty. Even in the airport, duty free is still much higher than here in the states.

If you want something bad enough, whether it’s a camera or a lens or even a memory card, expect to pay the ticketed price. If you don’t want to pay for something that seems exorbitant don’t buy it. If the price comes down, you win!
