Well I took the plunge and just ordered one of Peak Designs aluminum travel tripods. Hoping that I don't end up regretting the purchase since I went with the aluminum over the carbon fiber. I've had a Vanguard tripod for years that I absolutely love, mainly the pan-tilt head on it, but don't carry around much anymore simply because of it's size and weight.

I did a search and haven't seen any new posts about their travel tripods on here lately. So, any new feedback anyone wants to share while I wait for mine?

Oh, and if you didn't know, they have a Black Friday sale going on through mid week next week if there's anything of theirs you might want to pick up.

I purchased the aluminum tripod last week. There is a YouTube video that goes over all the parts and has tips on how it works. There is also one on maintenance. I really think I 'm going to like this tripod.

You will have to let me know what you think about yours. I haven't had time to put mine to use yet but I am hoping to next week.

In order to tilt the platform, you have to extend the center column up enough for the assembly to clear the base. Watch out, because you can pinch your fingers when doing this evolution.

Yes. I watched the videos on the parts and tips as well as the maintenance one before I purchased. I am really hoping that I like it.

Good to know. I will make sure I keep that in mind as I put it to use. I am not traditionally a fan of ball heads, as I much prefer the pan-tilt on my Vanguard. However, I definitely want to at least try the ball head of theirs with it first before considering purchasing the universal head mount to go with it to use another head on there.

I like all their stuff and use the sling strap but, they have got a political agenda that does not agree with me so I don't patronize them anymore.

I've had the aluminum tripod for a few years. I bought it on kickstarter.
I've travelled to many countries. Sand, water, snow.
It's weathered them all.
Great customer services as well. The built-in cell phone holder broke
(user error!) and the replaced it no charge.
If you shoot and stitch photos, you might want to get the other head offered.
It makes panoramas easier.

I took advantage of the PD sale and bought the Carbon Fiber tripod. One problem wit the ball head is that you can't pan with it. I solved that problem by getting a Sunway DDH-07 Panoramic Panning Clamp. It has an AcaSwiss plate and will clamp onto the PD ball head. Only the two screws on the ball head plate have to be removed. I thought this a better solution than having to remove the PD ball head and replace it with one of my panning heads.

I have the aluminum one. Love it. Somehow it feels heavier than it is. I think that it is because it is so compact that you expect it to weigh less based on looks. But it is sturdy, easy to use, and fits in my bag soooo well!

I love my Peak Design carbon fiber tripod. I also did get the adapter head mount, and have my gimbal mounted on it - witch I got on the original Kickstart.

I was willing to pay more for a quality and well designed product, from a company that shows responsibility and caring for our environment and people.

Sorry that some think that caring for people and the environment is a political statement. Wish that more people and companies

If you think supporting a cop hating racist terror organization is caring for people and the environment, I can't help you.

First, you cannot expect much stability from a "Travel" tripod - but they are small/light and easy to carry ......and, better than nothing.

A real world review of the Peak - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAbytL3almE - I would NOT recommend it tho .....another good review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn1BRfp-mw8

A little sack came with the Banguard travel tripod that you can hang from the tripod and add rocks or other weight to it to help stabilize it. I also use a sturdier Manfrotto with a ball head for most of my tripod work.
