Yes there is a T-shirt add that has a number of different effects with T-shirt printing with these stripes. However, I'm not so sure that the T-shirts would look exactly like this is supposed to depict the printed shirt.

I think you're right, in that it might need to be viewed from a certain angle and with the shirt shown with the proper pose, wrinkle free, to get the effect in real life.
It would be interesting to see one on a body, live.
