I really liked this photo, taken at the National Bison Reserve in Montana. But the mountains were kind of flat. I tried some brightness/contrast tweaking, but wasn't entirely satisfied. Then I tried PS's Autotone button and voila! I really like the photo, but I wonder if it looks somewhat artificial. What do you think?

I like the PP version. It gives the mountains great pop and I like the sun on the foreground. I would cropp a little bit off the left or at least eliminate the tail of the car going out of frame.

Thank you all for your comments. It really does boil down to whatever a person likes, doesn't it? I will try some things and see if I can come up with something even better.

I think I'd just clone that car out.

I tried again, this time Camera RAW and only lower the highlights on the snow some more in PS.

I think here I will give up. I am too used to working with OOC raw files.

Affinity/haze filter/unsharpmask.

I like the composition. Did you try using the "Graduated Filter" in Lightroom? I think that would put your sky and Mountains closer to where you want them while leaving the foreground alone.
The updated LRC has a lot more options now under the Graduated Filter tool.
Just a suggestion.

"In the post processed image, the light on the mountain tops and the contrast in the clouds makes a much more dramatic image IMO."

robertjerl had the right workflow-> PS to camera raw -> but now use the local adjustment tools in CR. There are a host of the local adjustments from brushes, to graduated filters that would greatly improve the image, section by section. I would start with the graduated filters on the mountains and I did a 2 stop reduction in the exposure and provided a great start. I usually do not add to other peoples post but give it a try and I think you will a find a way to improve this image significantly.

I really like your PP effort. And the road (and vehicles) do add a touch of accessibility to the scene.

PP is very nicely done. I'd crop out the road if it were mine

Bison Range is one of the finest areas in NW Montana to get great images of wildlife and landscapes! For me, I'd keep the road, lose the cars... The PP is quite dramatic but a bit overdone, IMHO. Perhaps the processed layer can be placed over the background layer and the opacity reduced a bit - would reduce the impact of the PP on the image and be easier to tweak if desired....

Here's my attempt at it, mostly using the Adjustment Brush in Lightroom.

I would clone out the car and maybe try a gradient filter in LR from the bright ground to bright mountain. I would be light with the gradient filter. Sorry still learning PS maybe it has the same filter?

It's still a big improvement.
