My granddaughters found this today and dragged me to see it. They told me they found a BIG spider, so of course I brought my camera.

It appears to be a Marbled Orb Weaver Spider (Araneus marmoreus). 8-)

Could be. Marbleds have such a variety of pattern & color, and I do not get to see them on the west coast.

In a set of bushes about 12 square feet, I counted about 6 of these each in their own web. It was pretty cool. From what my granddaughter's say, they've been there for a good part of the summer.
