One way of adding interest to a shot is to frame the subject. Most often used are architectural items (windows, doors, arches), and geologic or other natural frames (natural arches, trees etc.) I am looking forward to seeing some of your obvious and subtle frames in your photography.

A few of my attempts: The Grand Canyon, Natural Bridges and Chaco Canyon

Thanks for starting what should be a good challenge. I like your last initial example best.

Three good shots, though since trees are the only thing in the third one, I'm not sure whether they are framed.

The outside edge of a tree stump became an oval frame for its pallette of leaves.

I agree. Lovely leaf shot.

Sweet. There is a smartphone photography section here; this picture would be welcomed there too.

Wish the first one had a bit more dynamic range, however... were you in a car zipping along? In such a case I think you achieved more than could be expected.

...*really* love stuff like this, Simon! Especially #1 where you composit a bit (or not? Heh...), *I* would break dishes trying to rid it of the grain...but that's just me!

Looking SE across the City Waterway in Tacoma WA. To bad the clouds obscure Mt. Rainier. Notice the fire boats at base of the Murry Morgan Bridge. Lots of stories to tell about them.

This is an Area I should investigate more. However I have a certain amount of trepidation at the thought of wandering around Tacoma alone. Thanks for letting me explore vicariously
