I am not a professional but I'm eager to learn. Please provide feedback in ways that I might edit this better or maybe just a different perspective. The camera used was a Pentax K-70 with a Pentax 16-85mm lens.

Very nice photo!!! I am very happy you edited out the car seat. I would also take out the very bright snap/button. The eye is drawn to the brightest/lightest/whitest part of the photo and there shouldn't be anything taking away a single glance from those gorgeous eyes and that adorable little grin. I am not a post processing guru so the above comments are just my personal opinion.

For post processing advice you may want to submit your photos and questions to the post processing section.

...that is a beautiful face...you did a nice job a getting rid of the detracting background...what about that button...? Those eyes are spectacular...what about a closer crop to enhance the eyes...?

I don’t think I’d get rid of the button, just tone it down a little.

Definitely #2. As to the button, I’d tone it down maybe with a graduated filter.

i agree ... tone down the button but keep it in the photo.

i think the picture would drop into the mundane without it.

If you are asking only about this photo the information posted earlier is excellent. If you speaking of better photography I think it would have been a better photo if were taken as a portrait than a landscape. I would also like you to know it's better to get any shot than to miss the opportunity of a great expression or smile as you have captured.

I disagree. If there was more room at the top it would work as a portrait but as it stands it would feel “cramped”. A square format would work but I like the way it’s cropped. I think it moves it out of the realm of just another typical portrait.

I would believe it could be edited at the top much like it was in the second photo.

Edited at the top? I’m not sure what you mean. The crop looks exactly the same in both.

My only suggestion would be to get down to the subject's level.

If it had been taken as a portrait, not edited as a portrait.

You've handled this well.

It's not perfect, but I reckon if you keep at it
your portraits will be great... If anything
I should be asking you for advice.

Good job on the second one. I agree with keeping the button but toning it down. The eyes are nice and sharp but the reflections are a bit busy on download. I like the slightly off-center crop.
Great looking kid BTW!
