A common feature of western Minnesota and Eastern South Dakota left behind when the last great glacier retreated Northward about 11,000 years ago.

I always find it interesting to ponder the fact that trees require a more constant an deeper supply of water than do the grasses that cover the great area of our Great Plains, so the wooded/ “forested” sites have always been in immediate proximity to flowing or standing water - and so, this sort of scene has been essentially unchanged since the grasses replaced the receding tundra 11 millennia ago!

I should admit that my imagination helps me to visualize the great-horned bison and wooly mammoths in the distance - when, in truth, I’m seeing only big, round bales of grass hay far off... way out there...
Yeah- I guess I’m sort of a prehistorical romantic at heart!

Really nice capture. It looks great in the download. Retreating glaciers have left some interesting things.

Thanks, Greg, yes; the remains of a butchered mammoth were found in the cut bank of the Big Sioux about four miles from home in 2002!

Looks great in download! Thank you for listing the model of the Smartphone that was used to take the image. I encourage everyone to list what model phone camera was used. Maybe someone is using the exact model phone and is struggling with some of the features. They could get help from someone in the group using the exact model.
