A Barn I've Known

The barn in these images is located on US Hwy 70 between Cookeville and Baxter. Its been there since I can remember. When I was a youngster, my Dad would drive my family down this highway in his 1949 Nash coupe almost every Sunday afternoon on the way to visit my maternal grandparents. I remember using this barn as a marker for being halfway to grandma's house. I remember the field around the barn being planted in tobacco when that was the big cash crop in these parts that sustained the farmers around here in many years. There were other outbuildings on the land in the past but they have fallen into ruin and were removed over the years. Who knows how much longer this one will last. It dodged a bullet last this year when a tornado tore through several neighborhoods on its side of the road just a mile or two East of its location.

These were shot with a Lumix ZS100 with some post processing in PSE 2018 to improve the levels and saturation a bit and crop them.

Stan Old Friend number 1 image tells me a story. Your commentary about the barn makes the image complete for me. Thanks for sharing. Stay well and stay safe.Stan

Two nice photos of this old barn, Stan. It is nice that you have something to photograph that brings back fond memories from childhood. The walls are getting thin in the old place, but there is no obvious lean yet. So, it may be around for many more years. I hope so.

Beautiful images - love these old barns. Sad to see them in such states of disrepair.

That does look like a great old friend. I recently restored my barn that looked a lot worse than that. Nice pictures.

The barn looks unused, but the owners do keep the field it sits on mowed, as you can see. I suppose they are just waiting for time to do it’s work on the old barn.
