Small mixed flocks continue to flit through our trees looking for the last insects, and whatever nuts they can find. Juncos, Chickadees, Song Sparrows were noted in this loose flock.
This guy landed almost at my feet. Unsure of what this guy's species might be. Sparrow? Looks like a few but not distinctly so. Bachman's? Cassini's? Botteri's?
Seems to be a bit larger than the Song Sparrows that are all over the place. Head markings are wrong. No real white markings show so ID is more difficult for me.
D500, 500pF, 1/500, f 6.3, ISO 5000 no EV or filters.
Downlods help.
Thanx in advance!

Song sparrow??
Thanx for responding. Song Sparrow is smaller. Also Song Sparrows have more definite stripes on the head.
Golden-Crowned Sparrow according to my bird ID app. And these are excellent shots.
Am I the only one who sees the "golden" crown?
I agree with Golden Crown Sparrow. Nice set, Tim. Possibly a juvenile or a hen.

May be-thanx! They move very quickly in a loose flock-Juncos, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Kinglets and so forth.

Thanx for viewing. It really does not look like the examples in Bird or Merlin for Golden-crowned Sparrows.
According to my Sibley bird book.......it is indeed a Golden Crowned Sparrow. But I think it is still a juvenile and maybe that is why you cannot decide. Looks exactly like the juvenile in the photo.
Yes, Golden-crowned. The gold in the crown is more muted in juveniles and in Winter. I'd bet that this is a young bird since you can see faint remnants of streaking on its sides. Very nice shots!
