Indeed they are. I had two Greyhounds that had been blood donors at a vet tech school after being retired from the track, and then three Borzois over a period of 22 years.

I have good friends with both. Lovely dogs. Bless those greys. I had no idea that happened. I’m sure they were grateful to get out of that situation.

Actually they were quite loved snd coddled at the school. Students practiced bandaging techniques on them and the dogs acted like they were getting spa treatments!
