Can someone suggest software which will backup my pictures and then add only new ones when I backup the file again? And if I delete some pictures from the file will the backup also delete them? Thanks for your help.

Windows 10 will do this via copy and paste is you Sent to save a photograph in to a file that has the same descriptive text it would ask you do you want to replace it

Yes Carbon Copy Cloner will do all that you asked. But it only works on Apple Macintosh. My wife and I have been using it for more years than I can remember.

I have used and can recommend Goodsync, Acronis, Macrium Reflect, and Aeomi Backupper as well as the simple solutions built into Windows and Rsync. Each of those will have a deletion/versioning policy - make sure you understand how it deals with deletions.

Another good choice. I believe you need the paid version to support cloud backup and versioning. Has that been your experience Gene?

I use CrashPlan. It will watch for changes in files and back up the new file. In doing so it uses versions, i.e. it will add a time stamp so that the old file is still available. This is important if a file gets corrupted. Without versions a corrupted file will overwrite the old file so your backup is corrupted. With versions you still have the old uncorrupted version.
CrashPlan will store your files on the cloud. But at the same time you can use it to store your files on a local disk. That means if you need to restore a file you can restore it from the local disk and not encounter bandwidth problems if a lot of data are involved.

Yep, versioning is a big deal and it is available in Windows as VSS (volume shadow copy service). When I was at NetAPP when we and NAS were first getting accepted as mainstream storage, our FS had snapshots as a feature. Dave Hitz, co-founder, used to have a little song that had a line that said: “snapshots will save your ass one day”, and I saw it do so a number of times.

I too use Carbon Copy Cloner. Easy to use and does just what you want.

SynchToy - free from Microsoft
SyncBack - free or paid. I use that for seven folders I backup. I use the Mirror option. That makes both folders the same, adding or deleting as needed.
Versioning, versioning, versioning!
If your backup software, whether local or cloud, lacks historical versions, then you aren't backed up.
Gene - Does the free SyncBack do versions or do you need to buy one of the paid programs?
TIA
