Too many new photographers (post film days) just don't understand the exposure triangle. Some of what you suggested is not in the relm of possibility with most modern cameras....IE: lenses do not have distance or f-stop scales on them, there for zone focusing is not really possible. Let alone focus shifting within the depth of focus scales. Many newbee's don't understand exactly what f-stops do let alone shutter speeds. Using Manual is a school of hard knocks and will most likely kill a lot of electrons. Yes, we get lazy, I stepped up my game a few years ago by using a tripod. In my advanced classes, I show students how long and involved it is to shoot film with a 4x5 view camera.... It is impossible to be lazy with a view camera. Otherwise it is very costly in time and money (film and processing). Most people are rush, rush, and don't want to take the time to master their equipment. When getting my BFA in photography, we spent a whole year testing our lenses, cameras and several films. I know by heart DOF with each lens I own at a perticular F-stop. Electronic shutters are dead on but mechanical shutters may not be. F-8 on my 28mm lens is not exactly the same exposure as F8 on my 200mm and so on.... Too many people are too heavily dependant on PP (that's right, those that don't adjust much and assume everything is in the raw shot) As you can tell, I'm old school. I prefer to get the shot right in the camera. It sure speeds up any corrections if needed in PP for Printing. Everyone says they are a photographer until the go "M"
