Memory Card Insert

I have two Canon beginner cameras. And they all have a problem with the memory card inserts.
1: my first DSLR camera, a Canon Xsi. the memory card won't connect when I insert it. That's no big deal. I I've upgraded to more sophisticated cameras
2: a Canon T3i. I bought that one used because one of my clients is an asset management company where I'm hired to photograph vehicles and real property where their customers are behind on their payments. There is obvious risk involved and I don't want to use my very best cameras for these assignments. Now, this camera worked great for several months. But now I get an error message on the screen telling me, "Card's write protect is switched to lock." I've tried several cards and I make sure that the lock switch on the card is where its supposed to be. But I get that same reading. I like that little camera, but what seems to be the problem and can it be fixed?

With regard to the write protect switch on the card.
Flip it on the card.
If the same error message is displayed,
flip it back and test again.
If the same error message is displayed,
the sensor for the write protect switch appears to be buggered.

As Longshadow stated, if flipping the switch on the card doesn't fix the problem then the camera is the problem. To be absolutely sure try a different card with the switch in both positions and see if the results are the same. If it's the camera you could go into your menu and do a reset to default settings. A long shot but worth a try. Otherwise, a call to Canon or a check of their database on their website might help. If you have to replace the camera something smaller and easier to conceal might work best for you. Olympus makes a fine small and inexpensive camera that is also very tough. I forget what it is called. T5 or something like that for about $400.

It's the card! The lock switch is loose, so even if pushing it in the right place inserting the card in the camera will often push it back to lock.

Then it should be evident when the card is removed?

Yes, if the insertion pushes the lock it will show when you remove the card.

If there are no pictures on the cards, then I would consider trying to reformat the cards in your PC to FAT 32. Then try them again. This assuming as others have mentioned the cards are set to read/write.

I literally had this happen to me for the first time in decades two weeks ago with the same "lock" msg. Nothing would solve, switched cards, working, contacting Lexar for replacement.

Not sure I understand...
Have you tried to reformat the card(s)?
or are you convinced this is a camera issue? ...in which case the problem is now a Cannon or Nikon or whomever manufactures your camera issue.

Superglue all your card switches into place when you buy the card

Won't do a darn thing if the detector mechanism in the camera is broken.
And that will eliminate being able to write protect the card if you ever desire.

I read it, and inferred incorrectly since your statement was ambiguous (no context).
A comment out of thin air?

Do you presume that no one will ever want to write protect the card?

Simply stating what you do yields no solution to the problem at hand.

I hold my camera in my left hand and insert/remove the card with my right hand.
It's what I do....
