Very nice series! IMO, based on the sharpness and clarity of the downloads, a tighter crop would increase impact of the photos in presentation.
Thanks for digital photos quixdraw, here's a closer crop of #7...agree looks a little better, focuses more on the birds.
Excellent set, but I know that you were joking. There was no one in the set leaning on a shovel. (LOL).
P.S. I really like that last one!

It was a 'Shovel Ready' project, at least its what they said...
Thanks Mike, much appreciated.

State Road 60 is a main east-west artery from Tampa to Vero Beach and runs through some of Florida's prettiest flatlands and also the Kissimmee River Basin. Although its a 2-lane Hwy, with very little shoulders, it gets a tremendous amount of car & truck traffic.
Heading over to Lakeland one early morning on SR 60, I saw a Cara Cara eying a dead armadillo that was in the middle of the east bound lane. Decided to pull off onto the grass shoulder about 75 yds away and try and capture a few photos in between numerous passing cars and big rigs. The Cara Cara was also watching the cars and made his move when there was a slight lull in the traffic. He would eat for a while and when cars were approaching, he would fly to a fence post. Even after a meal, there was no peace to enjoy it since a Red-Wing Blackbird would harass him to no end.....Much better in download, Cheers.

Nice shots and sharp dls, blaster.
Terrific captures! I've been on that stretch many times and have never seen one!

Thanks nimbushopper, I routinely see them on the stretch between Yeehaw Jct and the Kissimmee River. Heading WEST from Yeehaw, after the first passing lane, there are two curves, once pass the second curve, I always see them on the south side of the hwy and many times they are flying following the road, usually morning and late afternoon. Lots of road kill on SR 60 and they're always looking.
I've seen more this year than previous years which is great. Saw an entire family sitting on fence posts just watching the traffic. Another good spot is south of Yeehaw Jct on US 441 to Okeechobee. Good hunting next time you're traveling that road, and be safe because pulling off on the shoulder is scary with all the high grass and heavy traffic...Cheers

Thank you very much Bruce....Cheers, have a great day.
Thank you very much Mike, most appreciated.
Nice sequence. As for the "crew," it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
Great series, would love to see one in person.

Thanks Jerry.....with the amount of roadkill (primarily armadillos) on that stretch of hwy, its a smorgasbord for carrion hunters and these guys do a great job
....Cheers

Thanks very much Bultaco, they are a striking bird and if ever in Central Florida, they're usually in the prairies and grasslands and near swamps south of the Orlando areas. If you should happen to visit, many of the zoos and animal rescue sites have them....good luck
