Sounds good ... Meanwhile I will get more comfy with my wife's new purchase for me . I think Burk was right on point; SOOO much more than just a cell phone. I can't wait to get some DOF apps and maybe a chart of ND conversion times etc... Thank you for stepping up and giving this a go... I hope it doesn't turn into a phone cam bash but supports and helps those that wish to use this medium.

It should be fun. A section devoted just to Smartphone Photography and Creative ways to use the phone camera images in post-editing apps. As far as the basher's, well they don't have to enter and if they do, they can check their attitude at the door. :-)

You will make an excellent manager 🤗

I will subscribe to your forum, because who knows - maybe some day my $5.00 flip phone will stop working 😀

But, seriously, if I didn't have two M4/3 cameras and no need to text or use web on my phone, I'd gladly try out a cell phone camera!

😊 😊

Suggestion: start making a list of folks to pm when the section is activated. Remind people they will need to click the subscribe button if they wish to keep track of activity (either with the digest or "newest topics" at the top of any UHH page).

Re the emailed digest, volunteer-managed sections get five slots, though most of the smaller sections don't have that many topics in a single day, so it's a non-issue. I believe, though, you must achieve a certain number of subscribers before you can be included in the digest (you could ask Admin about that).

I just received my iPhone 12. My reasoning for buying it is because I use it as backup for my flying navigation. It has a great screen and is faster than my iPhone 7. The fact that is has an excellent camera was not a factor. Okay, that’s a lie. I’m really looking forward to start shooting with it.

I have the 11 Pro Max. When they come out with a real telephoto lens, not the 65mm that they call a telephoto, I will upgrade. In the meantime, I'm quite happy with the quality of the 11 Pro Max which I use with the ProCamera app.

Ditto berchman.

A dedicated camera is a one-trick pony. The smartphone is a general purpose, Internet connected computer that happens to take decent photos and make phone calls.

I should add that I use my iPhone camera for check deposits, bar code reading, FAX, shopping (price comparisons), and so many impromptu practical things only a camera can help me do.

The more than two million software applications available for smartphones are why you buy the device. It’s a powerhouse no one really understands until they use one daily. It turns the tedious into the mundane. It accelerates much of what we do, and it replaces hundreds of old tools, methods, and customs with convenience apps.

It is also a tool that gets more capable over its lifespan due to OS and software upgrades.

Oh I agree Sir truly and on all points! I have to admit I would rather be attached to my camera than my phone.

Which is the best camera? A DSLR or a smartphone and the answer is: the best camera is the one on you. I would suggest that most of us don’t carry a big camera around in the back pocket all the time, but we most likely have a phone with us at all times. The iPhone 12 has impressive specs and I plan to get one soon; much less expensive than another Z6 with a fancy lens which will stay home more often than hanging around my neck.
