Summer in Iceland 27 - Nordurland Eystra/NE - Namafjall geo-thermal area 2 & Laxa river
Since I enjoyed this colorful "steaming desert" landscape of the Namafjall geo-thermal area so much (see yesterday's post), I just have to post another set of images from this otherworldly place. After these additional pictures, I present another two interesting images taken near the Dettifoss falls area and then depart for my night's lodging in Laugar. On the way, I get a few shots of the small Laxa river which we will see in greater detail tomorrow and which exits from the the enchanting lake Myvatn. We will see this lake in a week or so.
NAMAFJALL GEO-THERMAL AREA - see my explanations in yesterday's post.
HERDUBREID is a tuya (volcano formed under an ice-cap) and also the queen of Icelandic mountains. The mountain is considered by many Icelanders to be the most beautiful mountain in the country. Herdubreid rises 1682 m / 5518 ft up from the Odadahraun lava desert and stands alone without any competition from other mountains and can therefore, as a queen deserves, proudly express her dignity from any angle.
