How can I view the EXIF data of a downloaded photo seen here on the forum?
My computer is an imac running Catalina 10.15.7
Thanks for your help.

I think that there are existing threads on UHH that deal with this.

A few options:

a) download the file to your computer and view the File Properties with your OS
b) install "EXIF Viewer" into your Chrome browser
c) download the file and open into your digital editor and viewed the EXIF properties
d) search for any of various "exif viewer" extensions that install into your preferred browser

Do you have Lightroom Classic? That'll do it.

Nice simple options, but sadly they only work if the EXIF wasn't stripped when the image was uploaded. If the EXIF has been stripped there's no way to read it. Photographers aren't always aware of it when stripping EXIF, Photoshops 'save for web' option strips EXIF...

Yeah - it is not the only one. I keep struggling to get my GPS location into my files only to be thwarted when resizing for the Hog...

FastStone will resize & save without stipping EXIF, indeed I believe PS will as long as you 'save' rather than 'save for web'
My use of the web actually makes it a place EXIF is more useful than the images I keep archived, but I guess thats just because my web saves are for photo forums :)

Click on 'Download' when available. Drag the file onto your desktop. Open the file in Preview. Go to Tools/Inspector in your Menu Bar.

I hope he understood that because I didn't. LOL Now he has to load a Chrome browser too?

Save the photo in question to your local disk and look at the data in whatever manner you normally use. THEN DELETE IT. It's not yours. And your curiosity is normal. I do that often to see what settings were used for a shot I like.
