Honoring a doctor and wolves

Many years ago, a physician adopted a couple wolves and kept them at his home in NW Pennsylvania. According to another physician, with whom I worked, there were several stories about that doctor and the wolves. One story was that the physician would take the wolves for walks, on leashes, along the main street in town.

Recently that doctor and his kindness to wolves was honored with a plaque and a sculpture in his town, Kane PA. I took a drive yesterday and stopped to get a couple photos of the plaque and the sculpture. The sculpture was constructed using several thousand recycled nails. I have attached a couple photos for your viewing pleasure.

Handsome creatures, but do keep them in town - even a small pack can put a good sized cattle ranch out of business. The "compensation" for losses doesn't make it. Beef doesn't come from the butcher shop or supermarket.

Google his name and you can find much more information about him. The wolves he had and raised were moved out west several years ago and are no longer alive but their descendants are well cared and provided for.

They did not roam loose, they were penned and only the alpha male and female were walked, infrequently from what I was told. Again google the doctor's name for much more information. A very interesting subject.
