They're baaack! Male and female, flying and sitting. All taken by my wife Judy. She's turning into quite a photographer.

She is quite the photographer. Sitting Kingfishers are hard to capture and flying ones are even harder. So my hat is off to her for those great photos.

We have noted that our pair that resides in the area is back, but I never seem to be able to capture them. Only see them when I don't have my camera. Very elusive birds.

Yeah, they are fiendishly difficult to get good shots of. We just bought an additional Nikon 200~500 so we have one going on the D850 and one on the D500. We have missed shots passing one telephoto back and forth across the car. It's already showing dividends.
If I didn't like her so much, I would be jealous of her shots. I've been doing this for more than 50 years, she has been doing it for three!!

Nice photos Judy! How great that the two of you enjoy bird photography together. Soooo, who gets to use the
nice 850? (little humor)

Well, officially I bought it for Christmas for her last year. But I took it to Africa with her blessing in February. And took the D500 too. She said if I didn't bring back incredible photos from Africa I wouldn't be allowed to touch it again. I think I fulfilled that requirement.
And I don't think I'm working at a disadvantage using the D500. Although I freely admit, I love that full frame look.
