Some people have a landline just so they can call their cell phone when they can't locate it.
I've always had a landline, and I don't plan to give it up. Last night, we lost cell service. I checked just now, and it's back. We have TracFone, which uses Verizon towers. I have no idea why service went out or how extensive it was.
Amazon echo finds my phone and makes phone calls when needed no landline just cable.
Jerry, landlines are wired to the wall and you can not lose them; it is as simple as that...attached. Jerry, MAGA, bring back MaBell dial-phone, black-phone, monopoly. Cell phones are anti-rest on vacations; the company would call me to solve problems while resting secluded. Back then a phone was a phone, macho, not a camera, not a tracking device. My auto-insurance is lower because they track my driving habits!! Truly this is an invasion of privacy, although, phones were not mentioned in the constitution surely, they would have if they were interrupted by calls to sell you something, or their mistress calling to complain.
Also, automated switchboards killed jobs, the wooden crank phones had a charm, as did the sweet operator's sexy sweet womanly voice; nostalgia with romance in mind. Phones today are as friendly human-interactive as auto-scan DIY checkout at your local Walmart!!
Jerry, my coffee was mellow as I was this morning until you brought up cell phones and tracking. My landline is MagicJack and so if I get a call on it I see who, and if it is important they leave a message and it is sent to me as an e-mail.
I had to invest in an iPhone to get the insurance discount... ROI, how long will the return on investment take? Lose the cell, flip phone easy... but this iPhone is BIG! also it has a red billfold cover and my credit card and license in there. As soon as the Vaccine makes it safe, I will take a 3 credit college course on how to get the most from this sees-all, hears-all, photographs-all, tracks-all mad-man device the exalted iPhone.
Curses on you Jerry you have caused a rant when i should be mellow with my AM Cup of mild coffee.
We still have a landline—It is a puzzle why.

No need for me to spend money on a landline, I just wait for the spammers to call each day to know where my phone is.
The people who keep trying to sell me a warranty on my 20 year car help me locate my phone on nearly a daily basis.
I quit my landline phone service a couple of years ago. It wasn't a big deal, we just never used it for anything anymore.

I haven't given up the "landline" either. The reason for me is because we have gone without power for more than 8 days when hurricanes come, and I still had phone service with my old landline! (I had to make sure and keep a corded old phone because all the cordless won't work without power.)
With a three story home, our landline makes it so easy to answer a phone, no matter where I happen to be. And no, I don't want to carry my cell phone all over the house. Charter landlines are a must here.
We got such a good deal we included the landline as part of our cable .it is good that we have cell phones when cable is out from time to time.

That is the problem with cable.........they tell people they still have the landline, but they do not have the same line. No power, no cable, no phone service.............

Why Do We Use The Term Cellular Phone Instead of Mobile Phone?
Consider the term "cellular phone" to be a misnomer because the phone is not cellular, the network is. The phone is a mobile phone and it operates on a cellular network. So what do you think, is this just splitting hairs or do we need to be more careful about what we call our phones? [The Atlantic]
My children have told saying cell phone makes me sound old; I am.

My landline is just the opposite. It's bundled with Spectrum internet and TV. Even with the generator running, the phone doesn't work because Spectrum doesn't work. That's where the cell phones come in handy.
We use the landline for local and all incoming calls.
Keeps my cell from ringing a lot.
USED to be 911 service worked more efficiently/accurately from a land line.
A landline still works when power goes out (I have a plain phone also.).
Does VOIP still work when the power goes out?
I used my cell phone to call my landline. Often the cordless phone was down the cushions or on top the toilet or even in the refrigerator.
