While traveling along I-90 a few years back, we stopped at a rest stop just inside Montana. While taking a break, having a few snacks and enjoying the scenery, I heard a train whistle. I looked out toward the valley and saw the trestle in the distance. As soon as I heard the whistle again, I grabbed my camera and the AmTrak's empire Builder was just coming onto the trestle...took a few quick photos. Had I known it was coming I'm sure I could have been set up for much better photos. Anyway, it was a pretty view and AmTrak was so pretty against the mountain.
An unusual catch, nice work!
Sometimes the best photos are impromptu. Nice catch

That they can be. This is one of them. Nice capture, Blaster.
Nice photo. I remember riding on the Empire Builder many years ago. My father, and mother, worked for the PRR and because he was a railroad employee, albeit a different railroad, he got discounted fares or something like that on other railroads.
One year he took the family on vacation on the rails. We went from suburban Philadelphia to Philadelphia, then to Chicago. We took the Empire Builder from Chicago to Portland. From Portland we went to San Francisco and eventually ended up in New Orleans, then back to Philadelphia. When I was a kid, we went virtually everywhere by train.
Thanks LS, appreciate the T-U

Thank you rmmorison and ditto...My father was an engineer on the PRR way back in the day and we did the same thing, many, many trips across country as a kid on trains and absolutely loved every trip. Dad would just request passes for when we were traveling and they were always in the mail. Since we lived in FL, dad would take us up north to PA every summer to stay with kin folk and friends....made at least 4 trips from PA to the west coast and back on PRR, D&RG, UP, SP, so many nice railroads back then.....Cheers

Thanks a bunch MT, appreciated....it was fun to watch it cross the trestle, a really nice contrast.
Excellent shot - right place right time
I took the Empire Builder from North Dakota to California when I joined the Army in the late 50s. I don't remember it looking like that.
Thanks for the memory

My father didn't work on trains. He was a track master at a fairly large, back then, rail yard. His office was in a tower in the yard. If I remember correctly, they controled all the traffic moving through the Philadelphia western corridor. His idea of going for a walk on a sunday summer afternoon was to take a train ride to New York City or Washington, DC or Harrisburg or Philadelphia and visit a museum. As a child, I spent a lot of time on trains, walking around in cities and in museums. As I recall, we visited some really fascinating places, it was a lot of fun.
