Insane morning. I'm finding robber flies like crazy. One observation, this makes the third such morning in the last few weeks with excellent results:Rains the night before with heavy dew in the morning. Around 8am looking in only the sunny areas. Might be the Robbers are out catching prey as they are slower in the morning. Captured two feeding this morning.. Here are a few of the results.
F/14- F/16, 1/200- 1/250, ISO 320, Hand held, pop up flash with -1.7 flash compensation, home made diffuser.

Well, they are all good-- but #2 is freaking awesome!

Thanks for sharing-- I've never seen one here in the Northwest--but maybe I don't know what to look for. What approximate size are these guys?

These are the smaller ones and not the Giant type. Smallest one here about 1/2 inch long to about 1 1/4, the one that captured the fly. As you can see not a lot bigger than the dew drops.
I slowly walk thru a small ditch line early morning and find these. Most of the time I see them shot from one weed to the next out of the corner of my eye. They usually travel in a straight line when flushed out from me walking. You start noticing little things like that the more you get to know your target. So if I see something flutter away or travel zig-zag I ignore and hone in on the other types of movement. Sometimes I see them perched, but most of them today I say after they made a move.
